Avitha Sooful is a Senior Lecturer in the School of the Arts at the University of Pretoria. Her research is embedded in tracing and documenting the artmaking and history of apartheid through object histories. This research is available in both her practice as an artist and as an academic. This she believes enables a reclaiming and inserting of narratives into current history and discourses. She serves as the National Vice President of the South African National Association for the Visual Arts (SANAVA) as well as Chair of the international network, Exploring Visual Cultures (EVC). This Network comprises art educators from Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Germany and South Africa and sits as a network between Africa and Europe.
